CARTER COTTAGES STORY
HISTORY
John & Mary Jane Carter and five children John, James, Walter, Roland & Sarah moved from England in 1910 and settled in Werribee Victoria. Over the years the four brothers had built a very successful poultry farm that exported eggs all over the world, the Carter family had the largest poultry farm in the southern hemisphere.
Due to the number of staff working on the farms the Carter family had arranged to have over 120 Red Brick homes built for their workers to live in and called the area the Carter Estate.
After the poultry farm closed down in the late 1950’s the Carter family moved on, however the history lived on; as the 120 homes have a heritage overlay to protect them from losing the character and authenticity of their era.
In the late nineties after several owners 1 College Rd was purchased and renovated to become the first of the Carter Cottages Accommodation, and then over the next 10 years 2, 3 & 4 College Rd were purchased and renovated to make up the now 4 cottages called Carter Cottages Accommodation Inn.
PRESENT
In 2009 the Carter Cottages went up for sale and Mim & John purchased them to fulfill their dream of running a Bed & Breakfast Accommodation.
As Carter Cottages grew, its goal remained the same: To provide a warm friendly home away from home for guests. The cottages have been refurbished internally to incorporate modern facilities and create openness, the bedrooms; living/dining rooms are equipped with comfortable stylish furnishings, all necessary to ensure your accommodation feels like a home environment. Carter Cottages has traditional style bed & breakfast where guests are sharing kitchen, dining and lounge facilities. Or self-contained cottages with private facilities with and without full cooking services. All rooms/cottages have their own bathrooms, dining table and chairs, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster for breakfast and light meals.
The cottages are known for their character of the era and provide an ideal scene for a romantic night, a family get together or reunion. Overseas visitors love the uniqueness of the cottages and enjoy the history associated them. Groups relish the homely atmosphere and the opportunity to share time together without being separated.
Business workshops, meetings and get-togethers have been very successful, as Carter Cottages provides a healthy alternative to commercial business structures where you can create better ideas in a creative environment. Our function room has an open fire place, leadlight windows and an ideal quality to ensure positive and constructive decisions.
Our Afternoon Teas have been very successful with groups of women who want to enjoy each other’s company while tasting some of the finest cakes, sandwiches and scones of a local caterer. At Carter Cottages we can create an experience for you that will be with you for years; it is just limited by your imagination.
We can do this because the people running the business own the business and all request will be considered. Carter Cottages welcomes singles, couples, families and groups of many sizes, are ideal for travellers or workers in the area for short or long term accommodation.
We provide you with information required for schools, churches, restaurants, shopping, travel, business and social activities. We are members of the Rotary Club of Werribee where we are community focused and support many projects, members of several networking groups and activities. We have maps of local areas, brochures of fun filled activities, and cultural attractions.
Thank you for visiting Carter Cottages.
